The archer of Barcelona Wojciech Szczesny revealed that he smokes tobacco as a football player soccer professional and that “it will not change” his personal life because “it does not affect anyone.
“What can I say to the fans about smoking? Absolutely nothing. There are things I don’t change in my personal life and it’s no one’s business if I smoke. It doesn’t affect what I do on the football field.”, The Pole said in an interview for Mundo Deportivo.
The 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper, who recently played for Juventus in Italy, came out of retirement to replace German Marc-André Ter Stegen in Barcelona, who tore his patellar tendon and will miss the rest of the season.
“I work twice as hard and I don’t do it in front of children so as not to have a bad influence on them. I want to be judged as a goalkeeper. Why look for stories that don’t really matter?”, Szczesny added about his vice that, although it is not well regarded in athletes, many do it.
And he concluded: “If anyone thinks that I will change how I am in my personal life, they can think again.”
