Most people have already been evacuated where Hurricane Milton is ravaging Florida. Influencer Caroline Calloway explains why she stays in her home.
The west coast of Florida is currently being hit by one of the worst hurricanes in history. Two weeks after Hurricane Helene caused devastation in the south of the US state, Milton is considered even more dangerous and stronger.
“Data indicates that the eye of the hurricane made landfall near Siesta Key in Sarasota County,” the US Hurricane Center NHC said in a statement on Wednesday evening. In advance, people living in the area had been asked to evacuate. But one refuses.

Sarasota-based influencer Caroline Calloway explained her decision on Instagram. In a story, she told her more than 600,000 subscribers why she didn’t leave her beachfront home. “I’m going to die,” she said right at the beginning. “First of all, I can’t drive. Secondly, the airport is closed,” said Calloway. Under no circumstances did she want to stay with her mother. “The last time I was evacuated for a hurricane, I drove to my mother’s house in Northport because of Hurricane Ian. Her whole street was flooded and we were evacuated by the US military after three days without power or running water ” she explained.

That was “very traumatic”. And so Calloway decided to stay in Sarasota. Her cat is with her and she has enough food. Some followers are already discussing things in the comments under their posts. “If she really wants to stay, she could have at least evacuated her cat,” says one user, uncomprehending. Others believe that Calloway was definitely evacuated and was tricking her fans.
She has a cheating past
Calloway is not without controversy. A few years ago it emerged how she introduced herself to a book publisher with purchased followers and fake university certificates and thus swindled herself into an advance. A little later, her ghostwriter Natalie Beach wrote an essay in the US magazine “The Cut” and explained in it that she had already spent time with Calloway when she was at university and had also built up her social media profile.
The author knows how to take advantage of the attention that Calloway is now receiving because of the hurricane. She linked directly to her books and wrote: “If I actually die in this storm, my books will be much more expensive. Order now.”
