This time it’s titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and focuses on men’s fashion. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” the exhibition features items of clothing, paintings or photographs that depict the style of black dandyism from the 18th century to the present day.
“This topic means a lot to me,” explains Lewis Hamilton. “When I started my career, I never imagined what I could be capable of beyond my sport. The pressure to fit in holds so many people back. As a black child, this pressure has weighed on me a lot to express myself creatively , was and is my freedom from this conformity. For Black people across the diaspora, fashion is about self-preservation, and I can’t wait to continue exploring and empowering our underrepresented voices.” The dress code for guests, which is usually chosen to match the title of the exhibition, is expected to be announced at the beginning of 2025.
The Met Gala is a charity event held every spring at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It is considered one of the most exciting celebrity fashion events of the year. The celebrity guests usually wear tailor-made creations from the world’s most important fashion designers based on a specific theme.
