Elton John opened up about his homosexuality on stage at the Attitude Awards. He is “still happy” as a gay man.
Sir Elton John (77) has become increasingly rare in recent months. After his withdrawal from the world’s live stages in the summer of 2023, the Brit now made one of his rare public appearances at the British Attitude Awards 2024. There he was greeted by his colleague Ed Sheeran in the legendary The Roundhouse Theater in London’s artistic district of Camden (33) presented the award for his life’s work. In his speech, the “Rocketman” singer said that this award meant a lot to him, especially as a “gay man” and that he felt honored. His career was a “long journey” for him.
“I’m still happy being a gay man,” John continued, “I love my husband and my children.” Even though he no longer performs live, he is still “married to work.” He also loves music, which once saved him from completely falling apart when he was unhappy. He also draws strength from his “Elton John AIDS Foundation,” which has been supporting people infected with HIV since 1992. For him it means “so much joy and so much pleasure” to help others. He has already collected a total of 600 million US dollars (around 550 million euros) for his foundation with his husband David Furnish (61).
