Lupita Nyong’o gushes about her cat in an interview, hinting that her pet is the only one in her life at the moment.
Actress Lupita Nyong’o (41) has indicated that she is going through life single again. When asked about her pet Yoyo, she explains: “My love for my cat is unique. If I should ever be lucky enough to be in a romantic relationship again, it will only be because of him.” She was on the verge of “closing the door and locking it. He made sure my heart stayed open.”
Separation in public
As the magazine reports, Nyong’o adopted the pet after separating from Selema Masekela (53) last year and “now only has eyes” for the cat. As of 2022, she was in a relationship with the TV presenter and sports commentator. In a lengthy statement she posted on Instagram in October 2023, she wrote that while there were “much more important things in the world right now,” she said: “In this moment it is necessary for me to speak a personal truth and to publicly distance myself from someone I can no longer trust…” In the “Harper’s Bazaar” interview, she explains the separation: “It’s hard enough to process heartbreak in private when the world has an image of you have in relation to someone else, the healing process is prolonged because the memory is anchored in the public.”
She did not explicitly say anything about Joshua Jackson (46), with whom Lupita Nyong’o recently had a romance, in the interview. The two were first spotted together at a concert in Los Angeles in October 2023. The two then appeared hand in hand on a walk together in Joshua Tree, California, in December.
