In 2021, a “Vogue” cover with Kamala Harris caused controversy. Shortly before the US presidential election, the Democratic candidate is now on the cover again – with a completely different message.
The Democratic candidate Kamala Harris can be seen again on the cover of the influential fashion magazine “Vogue” almost a month before the US presidential election. In the picture by the famous photographer Annie Leibovitz, the 59-year-old sits in an armchair, smiling slightly in a dark blazer with a matching silk blouse. She wears pearl earrings and has a small US flag on her lapel. The magazine’s title is “The candidate for our times”.
The current US Vice President Harris is running against Republican Donald Trump in the presidential election on November 5th. A controversy broke out at the beginning of 2021 over the first “Vogue cover” with Harris before she took office as vice president. At that time, the Democrat was seen in a blazer and sneakers against a pink and green background.
At the time, numerous commentators and users on social networks criticized the image as disrespectful or technically inferior and therefore inappropriate for the cover portrait of the soon-to-be most powerful woman in the country.
This time too, “Vogue” didn’t just get positive reactions. Some users on social media wrote that the photo was over-edited and that Harris looked like a 39-year-old. Trump supporters criticized the decision to include Harris on the cover.
