King Charles pays minimum wage for householders and expects a lot

King Charles has published a housekeeper job advertisement. Although he only pays slightly more than the minimum wage, he places high demands on those interested.

This post is only for true royal fans. Airing old curtains, dusting King Charles’ desk and making Queen Camilla’s bed. At the same time, receive one or two guests and polish the royal parquet. The new housekeeper is supposed to do all of this and much more for a mere 2,400 euros gross – and the monarch has already adjusted this not lavish salary upwards.

As the British news portal “Daily Mail” reports, the position of “Master of the Household’s Office” with a 40-hour week, moves to other castles beyond Windsor Castle and occasional weekend assignments was initially advertised with an annual salary of 22,000 pounds. Converted into euros, this corresponds to a monthly gross income of 2,231 euros. In Germany, just 1,612 euros would end up in the account. In England, the corresponding hourly wage for a 40-hour week is not even the minimum wage.

Nevertheless, the advert was published with an income of £22,000. When this was pointed out to the palace, they quickly said it must have been a mistake. The newly stated annual salary was then revised to £24,188. However, this salary is only 393 pounds (470 euros) above the intended English minimum wage.

Nevertheless, those interested in this salary should be willing to “expand their own skills through development and training” and, in the best case, apparently also be independent of family, because a willingness to travel seems to be a prerequisite in the job description: “Your main place of work will be Windsor Castle. At Accommodation will be provided if necessary. They will also travel to other royal residences throughout the year.”

When it comes to pay just above the minimum wage, the sentence almost seems strange: “We know that in order to do our best work, we also have to feel our best.”
