Newly discovered master tapes of unreleased recordings of Jimi Hendrix have been put up for sale at an auction dedicated to Hendrix memorabilia.

As reported by The Guardian, the unreleased demos date back to 1968 (two years before the rock legend’s death) and are said to be “very different in sound and length” from their known versions. The tracks are approximately seven minutes long and include songs such as “Up From the Skies”, “Ain’t No Telling”, “Little Miss Lover” and “Stone Free”. The master tape alone is expected to sell for approximately $260,000.

The condition with which the buyer of Jimi Hendrix demos must comply

A live-streamed auction in which the tapes will be sold will be held in London on November 15, organized by Propstore, specialists in film, television and music memorabilia. However, the person who ends up owning the recordings will only be able to play them in the privacy of their own home.

The first three tracks are from The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s second album, ‘Axis: Bold as Love’while ‘Stone Free’ was the B-side of “Hey Joe”which marked Hendrix’s first single release in the United Kingdom in 1966.

Talking about the unearthed tapes, Mark Hochmana music consultant for the auction house Propstore, said that whoever buys them will have “the pride of having his own Jimi Hendrix songs that only he can listen to.”

“These versions have never been heard, circulated or broadcast before and are very different in sound and length than more common examples,” Hochman added.

“They are much more compact and softer. You can hear more of the guitar, which is obviously what Hendrix was famous for.. “Experts who have visited and listened to the recordings agree that they are far superior to all other versions of these songs.”
