Cameron Diaz: Her comeback plan after a ten-year break

Cameron Diaz: Her comeback plan after a ten-year break

A decade ago, Cameron Diaz said goodbye to Hollywood. Before her comeback, she is now revealing the reasons for her long break.

Her fans still have to be a little patient. At the beginning of 2025, Cameron Diaz (52) will return to the film screen after a break of more than ten years. The title of her comeback film alongside Jamie Foxx (56) says it all: “Back in Action.” With the action-packed comedy, Diaz wants to build on her extremely successful film career before the mega break. Diaz has now revealed how she has “reclaimed” her life in recent years.

Exit as a Hollywood superstar

With her Christmas classic “Love Needs No Holidays” and other cult films, Cameron Diaz has also been regularly featured on all screens in recent years. But the fact is: Diaz’s last movie, “Annie,” was released in 2014. The romantic comedy “Love Needs No Holidays,” which is as much a part of Christmas as mulled wine and gingerbread, even dates back to 2006. Ten years ago, Diaz decided to make one exceptionally long break. For ten years, one of today’s biggest film stars got off the Hollywood hamster wheel and fulfilled several dreams at once.

“Felt right to take my life back”

What motivated the former “There’s Something About Mary” cult blonde to turn her back on the film business that made her a superstar for so long? At Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, an event for successful businesswomen on Monday in California, Diaz revealed her 10-year happiness plan: “I just had to do it. It felt right to me to take back my own life. Everything I really didn’t care about anyone else’s opinion, anyone’s success, anyone’s offer, nothing could distract me from my decision to take care of myself and build the life I really wanted.” And Diaz has really built up a lot over the past ten years. In 2015 she married the Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden (45) and had daughter Raddix in December 2019 and son Cardinal with him in March 2024. Together with her business partner Katherine Power (39), she also founded the wine brand “Avaline” in 2020.

“I replied, ‘All right, let’s go’

Then why the film comeback with “Back in Action” on Netflix in January 2025? “They said my career was over,” Diaz said. “And I said, ‘No, it’s not over for me.'” She received a lot of support for her comeback from her family, especially her husband: “He said, ‘You supported us and built the family. It is Time for us to support you and let mommy do her thing.’ He said, ‘Let me see how you do it, girl.’ And I said, ‘All right, let’s go.’ It was just the right time for my family.”

Comeback also with “Shrek”

Another motivating factor for her comeback was her film partner in “Back in Action”, Jamie Foxx. “I couldn’t say ‘no’ to Jamie. He said, ‘Come with me’ and I said, ‘Okay, let’s do it.'” “Back in Action” is the third collaboration between the two Hollywood stars after ” Annie” in 2014 and “Every Damn Sunday” in 1999. But Diaz has even more planned: She will reportedly return in the fifth installment of the Shrek series in 2026. She will be seen alongside Keanu Reeves (60) in the dark comedy “Outcome” as early as 2025. Cameron Diaz has a lot going on again – and her fans around the world are already looking forward to her comeback after a long, long time.
