Election in the USA: Stars in the US election campaign: Taylor for Harris, Kanye for Trump

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are getting big-name help. Many celebrities clearly name who they would most like to see in the White House. Among the younger stars, the preference seems clear.

In the final stretch of the presidential election on November 5th, celebrities are taking a clear stand. Who do you want to hold the most powerful office in the USA for the next four years – Kamala Harris or Donald Trump?

Team Harris

Since US President Joe Biden ended his campaign and Vice President Harris launched her own campaign to move into the Oval Office in July, countless stars have gathered around her. In addition to prominent black people such as talk show host Oprah Winfrey (70) and singer Stevie Wonder (74, “You Are the Sunshine of My Life”), these include the currently hottest pop stars.

Taylor Swift

A few minutes after the end of the TV duel between Trump and Harris in mid-September, US superstar Taylor Swift (“Cruel Summer”) made her support for the Democrat public on Instagram: “I think she is a level-headed, talented leader.” The 34-year-old has enormous influence among her fans – especially young women, an important group of voters. Trump’s offended reaction: “I hate Taylor Swift!”

Beyonce

At Harris’ first campaign appearance, superstar Beyoncé’s “Freedom” was heard in the boxing room. The 43-year-old singer, who has been on the Democratic side in recent years, gave Harris permission to play the track from the album “Lemonade” at events and in commercials. The song is a message for self-empowerment for blacks and women and against oppression.

Billie Eilish

“We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz because they fight to protect abortion and contraceptives, for the environment and for democracy.” On their social media channels, singer Billie Eilish (22, “Birds of a Feather”) and her brother Finneas (27) demanded in mid-September: “Vote as if your life depends on it, because it does.”

Charli XCX

The British Charli XCX posted on X: “kamala IS brat” – in reference to her album “brat”, which literally means brat. This means a chaotic girl who likes to party, sometimes says something stupid, but is self-confident and can overcome defeat, the 32-year-old described. The Harris team was happy to take up the image and temporarily imitate the style of the green album cover on their social media accounts.

Ariana Grande, Katy Perry and Pink

These three stars also show their support for Harris: Ariana Grande (31, “Yes, And?”) shared Biden’s Instagram post with her more than 300 million followers in which he suggested Harris as a candidate. Katy Perry (39, “Woman’s World”) congratulated the Democrat and wrote on Instagram that she believed in her from the start. And Pink (45) performed an acoustic version of her hit “What About Us” at the Democratic Party Convention in Chicago in August.

Bruce Springsteen

US musician Bruce Springsteen (“Born in the USA”) made it clear in an Instagram video: “I support Kamala Harris for President and Tim Walz for Vice President.” The 75-year-old warned that Trump was the most dangerous candidate he had ever experienced. Springsteen has been committed to the Democrats for decades. He is close friends with former President Barack Obama.

George Clooney

“We look forward to fully supporting Vice President Harris in her historic task,” George Clooney wrote after Biden’s withdrawal. The Hollywood star (63, “The Descendants”) had called on the president in an opinion piece in the “New York Times” in July not to run for the White House again. Acting colleagues such as Ben Stiller (58, “Night at the Museum”), Bryan Cranston (68, “Breaking Bad”) and Jennifer Lawrence (34, “Silver Linings”) are also behind Harris.

Team Trump

There aren’t nearly as many big names among the Republican’s supporters as there are for his Democratic rival. Does anyone else know wrestling star Hulk Hogan or rapper Lil Wayne? Some supporters only recently found support for Trump.

Roseanne Barr

Roseanne Barr, whose hit sitcom “Roseanne” was canceled in 2018 because of the comedian’s racist comments, has been an ardent Trump supporter for years. Even in the 2024 election year, the 71-year-old made no secret of it in her appearances and on social media – and, among other things, spread Trump’s conspiracy story, according to which it was not Biden, but the Republican who actually won the 2020 election.

Kid Rock

The rock rapper Kid Rock (“All Summer Long”), who has won numerous music awards, has been a loyal supporter of the Republican from the beginning. The 53-year-old recently appeared at Trump’s side at an American football game in Alabama – and didn’t miss a selfie opportunity with the ex-president.

Heino

“We need a man like that here in Germany,” said Heino (“Black-brown is the hazelnut”) about Trump on social media. And the 85-year-old folk musician also sang in the style of one of Trump’s campaign hits: “We want to feel safe in our country.”
