Liam Payne: The last days of the pop star’s life

Liam Payne died in Argentina at the age of 31. He spent the last weeks of his life in the South American country – and made headlines.

It’s news that doesn’t just shock One Direction fans: band member Liam Payne died in a hotel in Argentina at the age of 31. Payne fell several stories from a hotel balcony. Previously, other guests had noticed him because of his “erratic” behavior.

At the beginning of October, Payne traveled to Argentina with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy. The reason was a performance by his former bandmate Niall Horan on October 2nd at the Movistar Arena. “We’re going to Argentina. Firstly because we want to. Secondly because we want to. And thirdly because Niall Horan is playing down there and I think we’ll just go and say hello,” Payne previously explained on social media. Fan videos later showed the singer dancing at his friend’s concert.

He appeared relaxed and in good spirits and took selfies with fans. “It’s been a while since me and Niall have spoken. We have a lot to talk about and I’d like to clear a few things up with the boy. No bad vibes or anything, but we just need to talk,” he said on X, formerly Twitter.

Liam Payne: His last days were turbulent

After the performance, Payne remained in Argentina and continued to keep his fans updated on Snapchat and other channels. “I’m glad I have some time to myself,” he wrote alongside a picture showing a terrace with comfortable armchairs and a green garden.

Before his departure to Argentina, Payne’s new Netflix project had attracted attention. Together with Nicole Scherzinger, Kelly Rowland and AJ McLean, Payne was supposed to be a judge on the show “Building the Band,” which was planned for the streaming service.

But negative headlines also accompanied Payne in his final days. The reason for this was an argument with his ex-fiancée Maya Henry. Henry told People magazine in May this year that her time with the singer wasn’t easy. In an interview at the time, she revealed that her novel “Looking Forward” was inspired by true events. In the book, a young woman meets a pop star who changes over the course of the relationship, falls into alcoholism and becomes violent. At one point in the story, the pop star forces his girlfriend Mallory to have an abortion. It’s all fiction – or is it?

Argument with ex-girlfriend Maya Henry

“What I went through in real life is very similar to what Mallory goes through in the book. I definitely had some complications and had to go to the hospital alone,” Henry told People about her own abortion.

A week before Liam Payne’s death, the singer received mail from Henry’s lawyers. They sent him a cease and desist order because Payne had allegedly repeatedly contacted Henry. “Since we broke up, he’s been sending me messages, blowing up my phone… always from different phone numbers,” Henry explained on TikTok a few days ago, without mentioning Payne by name.

Although Payne himself was active on social networks, he did not comment on his ex-fiancée’s allegations. Instead, he posted videos and photos of himself and his new girlfriend Kate Cassidy. In one clip, he filmed himself and Cassidy at a property in Argentina while speaking to his fans. Another photo shows Payne shirtless. He posted the snapshot just an hour before his death. In fact, it was an old recording that was said to have been taken a year ago.
