Purelei Advent Calendar: Is the content really worth the price?

Everyone has done it before, right? Opening all the doors of the Advent calendar before the Advent season has even started, right? This was even necessary for this test report. The gold jewelry calendar itself looks great – beautifully designed, high quality. It is divided into an upper and a lower floor: the upper one can be opened with a flap and hides five boxes decorated with a butterfly, a flower, a palm tree, a wave and a flame. A subtle reference to the Hawaiian reference that this costume jewelry is intended to represent. On the lower floor there are 20 simple cardboard boxes. The inscription “Aloha”, which can be found several times on the calendar, is also reminiscent of the US surfer’s paradise. Why actually?

What makes Purelei special?

After a stay in Hawaii in 2016, the founders had the idea for Purelei. Inspired by the lifestyle of the islands, jewelry was chosen as a medium to preserve memories and take the aloha spirit home with you. The connection to Hawaii should be evident in every Purelei design and bring the Hawaiian feeling home. For this reason, Purelei’s Advent calendar surprises with 25 days. Why? It’s simple: Hawaiians don’t celebrate until December 25th.

In addition to tropical island feelings, the manufacturers also focus on quality. This is also reflected in the price. Currently it is for 189.90 euros available and should contain products worth 905.50 euros. If that’s too expensive for you: there is one for 109.90 euros. It includes eight gift boxes that you can be surprised by every three days. We will clarify later whether the price of the more expensive model is worth it. The quality of the Advent calendar is also noticeable in the jewelry itself. Purelei’s goal is to design jewelry that can be worn consistently in everyday life without tarnishing, fading or discoloring. That’s why manufacturers make most pieces out of stainless steel and finish them with an 18-carat alloy.

Purelei Advent calendar 2024: The first impression

There were really no disappointments when opening the doors. The calendar is full to the brim with pieces of jewelry, all of which embody the modern Purelei style: minimalist, some with subtle details such as pearls, rhinestones, etc. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings – everything is included. Above all: diversity. There are subtle pieces that are perfect for everyday wear as well as jewelry that is more intended for special occasions.

Each piece of jewelry was carefully examined. For costume jewelry, the quality is consistently convincing: the materials appear to be of high quality, the workmanship is clean and the jewelry feels good – sometimes it is even really heavy. When compared with fashion jewelry from well-known clothing stores, the difference quickly becomes clear. But is the hefty price of 189.90 euros worth it?
