Kerstin Ott talks about the facets of her new album and her lifestyle, including a vegan diet and giving up cigarettes.
Kerstin Ott (42) will release her new album “Forever for You” on October 18th. Once again, the Berliner doesn’t let genre boundaries stop her. The record has “a bit of oldie sound, a bit of dance and a bit of balladry,” as she explains in an interview with spot on news. “Old love never rusts,” for example, is one of two oldies on the album. “I always wanted to mix an oldie with new beats, so we sampled ‘Stand By Me’ for the song. So we tried a little bit on the new album.”
Thematically, they also address many areas; the songs are about love, the topic of addiction or socially critical topics. “The song ‘What would I be without you,’ for example, is about the topic of addiction,” says Ott. “I’ve had some experience with various addictions in my life and I could really write a song about it on any album.” She is a very optimistic person by nature and “digs her way out of dark caves. Of course, it’s much easier with people at your side that you trust and love. That’s why I’m very grateful for such great, long-time friends and the family is always there too.”
This is how sport helps her in life
Since the release of her last album “Nachts sind alle Katzen sind Grau” (2021), Kerstin Ott has made a change in life. The “Always Laughing” singer has quit smoking after 30 years. “I’m very happy that I managed to do that. And even if I sometimes stand in a smoking group and feel jealous for a brief moment – I will do everything I can not to make this mistake again,” she says. Ott, who described herself as an “addict” in the past, now finds balance in movement. “After many years, I have started doing regular exercise again. This helps me a lot to relax and fill my time with good things.”
The musician has also started eating vegan. “It’s still difficult for me to do without cheese,” she says. “Otherwise, I can really say that many of the vegan products simply taste delicious and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything.” However, she has to prepare well when traveling, “the selection at gas stations or rest areas is very limited. But now you know what you need.” She owes her lifestyle to a pilgrimage that she undertook alone in Portugal last year. “I can recommend everyone to take a trip with themselves and their thoughts,” says Ott. “It sorts you out quite a bit, even in the weeks afterwards. It definitely won’t be the last time I do something like that.”
Kerstin Ott, who will go on the “Forever for You” tour at the end of 2025, also looks back on the highlights of her year in the interview: “My personal highlight was definitely when I jogged 5 km for the first time in years – without Break and without shortness of breath. And the tour we played. Those were many great and unforgettable moments.”
