The Argentine Football Association (AFA) decided this Thursday at the Ordinary General Assembly to suspend the relegations of the 2024 season of the Professional Leagueso next year a tournament will be held with a total of 30 teams in the First Division.
With the cancellation of the relegations, which was unanimously approved despite the fact that 18 dates of this championship led by Vélez have already passed, the competition scheduled for next year will have two more teams than currently, with the promotions of the Primera Nacional 2024 , reaching a total of 30.
This project, which was already implemented in Primera a few years ago, contemplates eliminating the Professional League and the League Cupand return to a 90′ Apertura (from February to June) and Clausura (from July to December) tournament.
In that sense, there will be two zones of 15 teams by draw with pairings so that there is a classic and interzonal date. Once the dates are over, the best from each zone will play round of 16, quarterfinals, semis and a final to define the champion. The first and second will rest in the round of 16 and enter the quarterfinals, surely with a sporting advantage.

The Clausura and Apertura champions would meet in the Super Cup at the end of the year or at the beginning of the following season. And the Champions Trophy will also be held against the winner of the Argentine Cup.
As for the decreases in 2025, there would be two: one by annual table and another by averages, as it is today.
For its part, the classifications for international tournaments would be as they currently are by annual table and the champions.
