Marius Borg Høiby’s ex: “Will never trust a man again”

“For the last few years I’ve shown a facade and a glossy picture where everything was so perfect and beautiful, when in reality it was pretty terrible”says Juliane Snekkestad. For the first time since the allegations of psychological and physical violence against Marius Borg Høiby, son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, his ex-partner has spoken out.

In the podcast, Snekkestad spoke about her relationship with Høiby and the allegations against him. Snekkestad accused Høiby of domestic violence in a post on Instagram in August.

Marius Borg Høiby is accused of domestic violence

The Høiby case got rolling at the beginning of August: the police initiated an investigation against the 27-year-old after he was said to have become violent in the apartment of an unnamed woman on the night of August 4th and damaged several items. The alleged victim is said to be his girlfriend at the time.

When it became known that Høiby had been arrested in August and charged with criminal damage and violence against his girlfriend, Snekkestad said he felt the need to speak out: “I thought that the girl wouldn’t be believed unless more people came forward and told us what they had experienced with him”she says in the podcast.

After her Instagram post, she expected that the media would report on it, but not with the magnitude of the media pressure, says Snekkestad. The past few months have been difficult dealing with the case and she hasn’t been feeling like herself lately.

“I was in great, great pain”

“You could say that I was retraumatized to a certain extent”complains Snekkestad. It is a relief that the truth has come to light. “But at the same time it’s difficult because things that I thought I had dealt with back then have come back to the surface and you have to face them again.”

Snekkestad describes the year after Høiby’s split in the podcast as “very hard”. “I was in great, great pain. I tried to deal with it as best I could and I think I succeeded to a certain extent. But not as deeply as you should process it”she says. It took time and she still needs it.

“But I think the whole of Norway now knows that I’m probably not feeling too well at the moment, so the mask comes off a little bit, and that’s kind of nice too.”

“I’ll never get over it”

When asked by podcast host Helle Nordby whether it was difficult for Snekkestad to talk to her relatives about the violence in her relationship with Høiby, she replied: “Yes and no. Because they had their suspicions.”

“And of course you’ve heard stories where you think, ‘Oh my God, why didn’t she leave, why didn’t she leave?”explains Snekkestad. “It’s so easy to say until you’re affected and see what it does to your psyche, your head and everything. It’s really disgusting.”

She will probably never forget the experiences of her relationship. “I’ll never get over this, I’ll never trust a man again.”

Høiby with partial confession

After the investigation began, Snekkestad and another ex-girlfriend, Nora Haukland, made allegations of violence against Høiby. On September 15, prosecutors charged him with domestic violence.

Høiby admitted the crime on August 4th. He confessed to broadcaster NRK that he had committed the bodily harm and property damage under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. However, he denies the allegations of bodily harm against Snekkestad and Haukland, said his lawyer Øyvind Bratlien on Wednesday star reported).

Bratlien told the broadcaster: “Høiby testified about three turbulent relationships, for which he naturally takes his share of responsibility.”

At the same time, Høiby claims that one of the injured parties abused him in a close relationship. “In his interviews, he testified about abuse in close relationships with at least one of the women affected.” Bratlien did not want to explain further what Høiby meant by this and who in his opinion mistreated him.

According to information from TV2, the police believe that Høiby committed physical and psychological violence against Juliane Snekkestad between 2018 and January 2022. The newspaper reported that this involved beatings, jostling and slaps in the face. Snekkestad and Høiby were a couple from 2017 to 2022.
