Mitzi Gaynor (1931-2024) is dead. The Chicago-born actress died of natural causes on Thursday (October 17th) at the age of 93. This was confirmed by her management and . The social media post said: “For eight decades she entertained audiences in films, on television and on stage. She enjoyed every moment of her professional career and the great privilege of being an entertainer.”
Her team continued: “Off stage she was a vibrant and extraordinary woman, a caring and loyal friend and a warm, kind, very funny and completely wonderful person.”

Gaynor is best known for a number of musical film adaptations. These included “Rhythm in the Blood” (1954) and “The Girls” (1957). In 1958, she played the role of Navy nurse Nellie Forbush in the film adaptation of the musical “South Pacific.” She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance. She then made three more films until 1963. In her acting career she appeared in front of the camera alongside Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962) and Frank Sinatra (1915-1998), among others. In her later career, she starred in a number of television series, had her own television specials such as “Mitzi… A Tribute to the American Housewife” and performed songs at Academy Awards ceremonies.
Gaynor was married to agent and producer Jack Bean from 1954 until his death in 2006, according to Variety.
