Thomas Tuchel’s mother Gabriele is sure her son will win the World Cup with England. That would be “written in the stars”.
It has been officially confirmed since October 16th that former Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel (51) will become the English national coach. Of course, the whole island is waiting for the Three Lions’ next title. So far there has only been one star (at the home World Cup in 1966). Thomas Tuchel’s mother Gabriele gave an extremely rare interview. She is confident that Tuchel, who does “everything with so much passion,” will win the title with England at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
Will Thomas Tuchel finally win another title with England?
“He can do it, I’m convinced of that,” says Gabriele Tuchel regarding the English team’s chances of winning in two years. “I think it’s written in the stars, there’s a special direction, you can do it. When Thomas puts his mind to something, he’s so passionate about it that I believe he can do it.”
Gabriele Tuchel is also enthusiastic about a German coach taking over as head coach in England. “Having a German coach for England was something you would never have thought possible before, right?” says Tuchel. “When you think about the history between our two countries, it shows how far we’ve come, the respect between the two nations.”
Close relationship with Grandma Josephine
For her son it was “a great honor” to coach England. “I saw Prince William wishing him luck and even the Prime Minister in Parliament.”
Gabriele Tuchel also provides some private insights in her interview. She reveals that Thomas Tuchel would often visit his parents in his birthplace of Krumbach. “We have a very close relationship with him and we have often been to London to see him and our grandchildren.”
Tuchel was also very close to his grandmother Josephine Harder. She recently died at the age of 94, Gabriele Tuchel reveals.
Tuchel shares two daughters, Emma-Josefine and Kim, with his ex-wife Sissi, a former journalist. The couple was married from 2009 to 2022.
