The citizens of Buenos Aires had been demanding it for a long time: protection for emblematic properties of the City of Buenos Aires. Yesterday an important step was taken in the Buenos Aires Legislature to care for and protect thousands of properties. Its objective is to be able to maintain the neighborhood identity and prevent it from being demolished for new real estate projects.
Hospitals, Churches, Universities, some of the protected properties
Among the estate The most emblematic are the Libertad Palace, the arch of the Buenos Aires autodrome and the space tower of the City Park. Also, the Spinetto market located in the Balvanera neighborhood, the Basilica of San José de Flores, the Gutiérrez and Ramos Mejía hospitals, the Manuel Roca rehabilitation hospital and two pavilions of the Israelita hospital.
In Commune No. 12, the Santa Margarita María del Alacoque Parish will be protected and in Commune No. 5, the San Bartolomé Apóstol.
La Botica del Ángel, in Monserrat, which today functions as an independent theater, is also on the list. In addition, the Ex-ventilation chimneys of Caballito and La Paternal.
The housing complex in the Parque Los Andes neighborhood, in Chacarita, will also be protected, and efforts will be made to provide protection to each of the properties.
On the other hand, there are the Francisco de Victoria School of Commune No. 15 and the Tomás Manuel de Anchorena School of Commune No. 3, the Espíritu Santo School, of Commune No. 10, and the Santa Rosa School of Commune No. 6.
The National Technological University (UTN) of Commune No. 5 and the pavilions of the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Sciences of the UBA entered the list. Also included are the Domingo Faustino Sarmiento libraries of Commune No. 12 and the Miguel Cané library of Commune No. 5, as well as the Premier Cinema Theater building of Commune No. 1.
Among the railway stations are Drago and Urquiza, which belong to the Mitre-Suárez line, and Saavedra on the Miter branch; Villa Lugano of the General Belgrano train; Caballito and Liniers del Sarmiento, and Palermo and Villa del Parque del San Martín.
La Bombonera, excluded from the list
A no small fact for fans: La Bombonera was finally left off the list, so it will be able to expand its capacity, something that generated controversy days before the session. Everything indicates that progress will be made in the project that will significantly increase the capacity of the stadium, which would be a milestone in the club’s history and a response to the demand for tickets from fans. The River Plate and Huracán stadiums were also excluded.
This list of protected buildings included those built before 1941 and will now have to go through a public hearing and then a second reading for final approval on the premises.
The initiative had 39 votes in favor of the ruling party, allied blocs and Unión por la Patria.
