Around ten years ago, Radost Bokel was diagnosed with cancer – and has remained silent until now. Now the “Momo” star spoke about the difficult time.
In 2014, actress Radost Bokel (49) announced that she had to undergo thyroid surgery, which took place in 2015. But the “Momo” actress has not yet revealed the actual diagnosis. Only now, almost ten years later, did she find out that she had cancer: “It was cancer. Lumps were found on her neck. Malignant.”
She even had a special mutation, which is why radioiodine therapy was given after the operation. “It wasn’t an easy time,” the actress revealed. At that time she was in a private stressful situation anyway and was currently in the process of divorcing her ex-husband Tyler Woods (41), with whom she has their son TJ (15). “I didn’t want to open another barrel,” Bokel explained her decision at the time.
Radost Bokel can no longer have children
Bokel also announced that he had probably experienced early menopause due to cancer treatment: “I was no longer able to have children at 39.” Nobody had told her that before, but her gynecologist finally explained to her that the radioiodine therapy was a reason for it: “That was hard for me. The thought was terrible for a long time.” It made her sad that she could no longer fulfill her longing for a large family.
“I would have liked to have had more children,” Bokel continued. It kept her busy for a long time and to this day she still “a little bit” envies people with lots of children. That was always her dream, but: “Of course I have my son, he is my everything. But the fact that I suddenly no longer had the opportunity shocked me.” Her son now has three siblings on his father’s side: “They’re crazy about TJ.”
In 2012, the “Momo” star was in the RTL jungle camp
Radost Bokel became a celebrated child star overnight in 1986 because of her role in the Michael Ende film adaptation “Momo”. A year later, she starred alongside Hollywood superstars such as Andie MacDowell (66) and Ben Kingsley (80) in the adventure series “The Secret of the Sahara”. She later appeared in TV productions such as “Tatort”, “Der Fahnder”, “Wolffs Revier” and “SOKO Kitzbühel”. In 2012, Bokel was a participant in the RTL show “I’m a Star – Get Me Out of Here!”.
Bokel married the American soul singer Tyler Woods in 2008, with whom she had their son TJ in 2009. The marriage ended in divorce in 2015 and Bokel returned to Germany from their shared residence in the United States.
