Modern architecture has become efficient and economical, and although these parameters could be analyzed as positive, Jeanne Gang think the opposite. The leading architect and founder of Chicago-based Studio Gang proposes a counterrevolution to a world of buildings with meaningless aesthetics and little commitment to the social reality that surrounds us.
In that sense, their works function in a dual way: They connect with both the physical and mental worlds. In this way, his creativity awakens our senses, and his works function not only as structures, but also as messages. His architectural art can be seen in different areas in which he worked with his studio, founded in 1997 and with offices in New York, San Francisco and Paris.

What is the Populus hotel like in Denver?
Between 14th Street and Colfax Avenue in Denver is Populus, America’s first low-carbon eco-friendly hotel. This building houses 265 luxury roomsand has a restaurant bar surrounded by vegetation, with a terrace and panoramic view.

The biggest challenge Gang had was build this hotel on a plot with triangular cornersfor which it was required to use all the space. The architect solved it simply, and planned a beautiful external side of the hotel, with metal sheet that opens and forms many holes that function as windows.

Likewise, it has a thermal mattress as an air chamber which serves to avoid having to install air conditioning installations. Furthermore, the design of the rooms is inspired by the Aspen tree, a common species in Colorado landscapes. Windows serve to connect the guest experience with the environment and a natural setting. Through creativity, Gang managed to create a building that breathes on its own.
