Jamie Foxx took the fourth anniversary of his sister’s death as an opportunity to remember his loss. He would think about her every day.
Four years ago, on September 19, 2020, the death of his sister plunged Oscar winner Jamie Foxx (56) into deep grief. Now the actor used the fourth anniversary of his death to remember his late sister DeOndra Dixon. Alongside a whole series of pictures, she wrote: “Not a single day goes by that we don’t think of you. We know that you look down on us from heaven and guide us in the spirit of joy and happiness. I miss you, sis , I love you.”
Dixon, who was born with Down syndrome, died aged just 36. Just a few days after her death, Jamie Foxx spoke out in public and shared his endless sadness. He wrote at the time: “My heart is broken into a million pieces… my beautiful, loving sister DeOndra has crossed over… I say ‘crossed’ because she will always be alive…” There is a hole in death left in his heart and the family was devastated.
Jamie Foxx continues to support the Down syndrome community today
Among other things, Dixon served as an ambassador for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation and, after graduating high school in 2002, moved from Texas to California, where she lived with her sister Deidra and Jamie Foxx. In 2009, Dixon appeared in her brother’s music video for the song “Blame It” and often accompanied him on stage during his performances as a musician. In 2020, Foxx attended the Grammy Awards with his sister.
Even after his sister’s death, Foxx continues to support the Down syndrome community with donations and appearances. For example, he and his family founded the DeOndra Dixon Research Fund, with which he wants to support “the often neglected group of African Americans with Down syndrome.”
