The friend claims that the last time he saw Payne was for around ten minutes on Wednesday, the day Payne died. A few hours later, a strange incident is said to have occurred, which was reported by several media outlets: Another friend apparently received a call from the hotel staff that Payne had been found sleeping in an elevator. The employees initially put the musician on a sofa in the lobby, but later took him back to his room.
