He was the creator behind “Machete”, “Sin City 2” and the Zelensky documentary “Superpower”. Now the filmmaker Aaron Kaufman has died.
American filmmaker Aaron Kaufman has died of a heart attack at the age of 51. Kaufman was best known as a producer for numerous films by cult director Robert Rodriguez (56), with whom he made the films “Machete”, “Machete Kills” and “Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For”, among others.
Kaufman, who was born in Long Island, New York, also appeared as a director several times. Most recently, he caused an international stir with the documentary “Superpower” in 2023 alongside Sean Penn (64). It highlights the atypical career of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj (46). The Hollywood superstar Penn, as the face of the documentary, traveled several times for the project to Ukraine, which was already at war with the Russian aggressor, to interview Zelensky.
Aaron Kaufman didn’t actually want to make a war documentary
Kaufman himself was already in Kiev when the war broke out and stayed in a bunker with Zelensky for the first few days. Kaufman originally didn’t want to make a war documentary, but rather just trace the career of Zelensky, a former TV comedian. According to media reports, Kaufman leaves behind three children, his mother, his brother and a sister.
