The first division newcomer Como 1907 attracts unusual foreign celebrities. Maybe that has something to do with the very rich owners.
The British actor Hugh Grant (“Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Notting Hill”) has identified himself as a fan of the Italian first division soccer team Como 1907. The 64-year-old was spotted cheering in the stands of the newcomer from northern Italy at the weekend.
After a goal for Como, he jumped up and raised his fist in the air. Grant wasn’t the only celebrity in the stadium with space for only 14,000 spectators: US actor Andrew Garfield (“Spiderman”) was also excited. The British Hollywood star Kate Beckinsale (“Underworld”) visited there three weeks ago.
Como also attracts other celebrities
Como achieved promotion this year with a lot of money from abroad: The club belongs to the two Indonesian brothers Robert Budi and Michael Bambang, whose assets are estimated at more than 50 billion euros.
In Como – located on Lake Como in Northern Italy – celebrities were always visiting even before the rise of the local club. Hollywood star George Clooney even bought a villa there on the lakeshore a few years ago. The first division game against rivals Parma ended 1-1. The promoted team is in 14th place in the Serie A table.
