Harvey Weinstein once dominated Hollywood – and used his power to commit sexual assaults. Now the ex-film mogul is in prison. There is a lot of speculation about his health.
A spokesman for Harvey Weinstein (72) has sharply criticized speculation about the former film mogul’s health. “It is both disturbing and unacceptable that such private and confidential health matters have become the subject of public discussion,” Weinstein representative Craig Rothfeld told the German Press Agency. There will be no further comment on these speculations out of respect for Weinstein’s privacy. Numerous US media had previously reported on the former film mogul’s alleged serious illness.
Weinstein, who was once all-powerful in Hollywood, was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York in 2020 for sexual offenses. The verdict was overturned in April and the trial is to be reopened. Weinstein was also convicted of similar crimes in Los Angeles, which is why he remains in prison. His condition had often caused discussions at court hearings because he was in a wheelchair or, most recently, had not appeared at all because of health problems.
The numerous attacks on women he was accused of had significantly triggered the global MeToo movement, in which women in particular drew attention to sexual assaults by men. As a result, numerous people around the world – including many celebrities – were seriously burdened by such allegations.
