Eric Stehfest was admitted to a psychiatric hospital to be treated for paranoid schizophrenia. The illness has followed the actor since his youth.
He has been preparing for this appearance for months: Jungle camper Eric Stehfest wanted to prove his strength at the celebrity boxing match “Fame Fighting 2” on November 9th. But now the former “Good Times, Bad Times” actor has been admitted to an outpatient psychiatric facility. he has been treated there for paranoid schizophrenia for two weeks.
It’s not an acute attack, Stehfest explains to the newspaper: “I’ve had it since I was a teenager, but it’s only now that I decided to get help.” He has to attend therapy in the clinic every day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The father of two was also stopped taking medication.
Eric Stehfest consists of “three Erics”
The actor, who made a drug confession in his 2017 book “9 Days Awake,” explains that he has paranoid delusions: “Only with my children is there a reality and it is full of unconditional love. Otherwise, I consist of three Erics and everyone is alive in different realities.”
He goes into more detail: “One of these Erics, for example, is constantly panicking that something bad is going to happen. Thinks that there is only evil lurking everywhere. Another Eric doesn’t remember good moments! For example, he thinks his wife just wants him expose,” said the resident of this year’s special edition of the jungle camp “I am Star – Showdown of the Jungle Legends”.
Stehfest sees a possible cause of the psychiatric illness in his eventful drug past, which also included abuse: “Any drastic experience can cause a part of a person’s personality to split off. And for me there were a few .”
A total of six weeks of psychotherapy
Why did he wait so long to get help? “I thought: I’m sure everyone has that. It took a lot of energy and ended up endangering my marriage,” he admits. “If Edith had her way, I would have been in the clinic for a long time. It took a long time for me to “I understood that she wanted to help me. I’m in therapy now because I want to save my family from destruction.”
The medication is helping and he is delusional for the first time in years. The prescribed active ingredients inhibit, among other things, the release of dopamine. “For me it was at waterfall level. And that can lead to schizophrenia and madness,” reports Stehfest. However, he will take part in the “Fame Fighting” fight on November 9th in Bonn and is training for it every day, which he demonstrates.
Actor Eric Stehfest has been married to Edith Stehfest since 2015. In recent years, the Dresden native has become known less through films or series than through appearances in reality formats such as “I’m a Star – Get Me Out of Here” or “The Summer House of the Stars”.
