After singer Liam Payne’s death, his father traveled to Argentina. But it will be a while before he can bring his son’s body back home.
After One Direction star Liam Payne died suddenly and completely unexpectedly at the age of 31 on October 16, the news sparked sadness and horror around the world. Shortly after the fatal fall, Geoff Payne, the deceased’s father, also traveled to Argentina. There he visited the unfortunate hotel from which his son fell and contacted the local authorities, who are still trying to clarify the circumstances to this day.
His goal: Geoff Payne wanted to bring his son home as quickly as possible and bury him there. As if that wasn’t tragic enough, he now apparently has a longer wait ahead of him.
Investigations into Liam Payne’s death have not been completed
As the “” reports, citing family confidants, Liam Payne’s father was informed that he would have to wait up to ten days before he could pick up his son. This is due to the ongoing examination of the body, which has not yet been fully completed, it is said.
Most recently, information came to the public that Liam Payne had consumed a variety of substances before his death. This presumably also includes the so-called “Pink Cocaine”, an undefined and constantly changing mixture of drugs such as ketamine, MDMA, cocaine, methamphetamine, caffeine and opioids. What exactly is being consumed here is usually not clear to consumers.
Before Geoff Payne can collect his son, the local authorities in Buenos Aires want to wait for toxicological tests – the reason for the long waiting time.
This was “extremely hard” for the father, writes the Daily Mail. He is still hoping that the laboratory where the investigations are ongoing can complete the work more quickly, they say.
Liam Payne’s father promised in advance to cooperate with the authorities as openly and transparently as he could. He wants to “tell everything he knows about his son’s life and what could be helpful in the investigation,” it said.
Where did the drugs come from?
Investigators currently suspect that Payne may have suffered psychosis as a result of drug abuse. An initial autopsy finding suggests that Payne’s death could have been caused by fall injuries to the head and internal bleeding as a result of the fall from the balcony.
It is currently unclear where Payne, who is said not to have consumed any drugs in the weeks before his death, suddenly got the illegal substances from. According to media reports, the police questioned a person from the hotel staff.
The Argentine Ministry of Justice announced that they initially only wanted to share all investigation results with the family. In addition to completing the autopsy, cell phones, computers, photos and surveillance cameras are currently being examined to trace the One Direction singer’s final hours.
