Amal and George Clooney: New residence in Portugal?

Meghan and Harry are supposed to move to Portugal. Now Amal and George Clooney could apparently follow suit.

They already have properties in Great Britain, Italy and France, and Portugal could soon follow suit. Hollywood star George Clooney (63) and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney (46), are said to be interested in another residence there. , the property is located in the coastal town of Melides, which is popular with celebrities, about half an hour’s drive from the capital Lisbon. The luxurious domicile is said to be strictly guarded and consists of more than 300 houses.

As the British “Daily Mail” reported just a few days ago, Prince Harry (40) and Duchess Meghan (43) are said to have purchased a house in the area. The royal couple lives with their children, Prince Archie (5) and Princess Lilibet (3), in Montecito, California.

More royal neighbors in sunny Portugal

If the Clooneys do sign on for a home in Melides, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex won’t be their only royal neighbors. Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie (34), and her husband Jack Brooksbank (38) moved to Portugal in 2022 and have been living in the very private complex with their two sons August (3) and Ernest (1) ever since. But they have not given up their British base in Kensington Palace.

The Clooneys are familiar with both royal couples. Amal and George attended the Sussexes’ wedding in Windsor in 2018 and the following year Amal attended Meghan’s baby shower in New York City.

The area has long attracted non-royal high society. Nicole Kidman (57) and Scarlett Johansson (39) are also said to have houses there.

The European Clooney Estates

George Clooney has had a foothold in Europe for years. The Oscar-winning actor bought a house in Laglio on Lake Como in 2002. According to the Wall Street Journal, Villa Oleandra is now worth more than $100 million. The house also holds a special place in the couple’s love story, as George hosted a dinner party there in 2012, which Amal attended accompanied by a mutual friend. The couple started dating shortly after…the rest is history.

In 2014, when the two got engaged and celebrated their wedding in Venice, they spent their honeymoon in the recently purchased property on the English Thames island of Sonning Eye. Around $13 million is said to have been paid for the house. There will be, among other things, an entrance hall with high ceilings and Gregorian stucco, a pool house bar, a cinema room with 16 seats and a garden room with citrus trees.

In 2021 they also settled in France. Similar to his best friend Brad Pitt (60), George and Amal Clooney decided to invest in a chateau worth $8.3 million in Provence. The house, called Domaine Le Canadel, is located on an 18th-century vineyard in the town of Brignoles. Aerial photos of the property show spacious lawns, a pool, a tennis court, a lake, an olive grove – and a large vineyard.

The couple’s twins, Alexander and Ella (7), are said to already speak English and Italian, and perhaps Portuguese will be added.
