Shortly before his death, Liam Payne spoke of settling in Argentina. He supposedly wanted to buy a house there.
Was Liam Payne (1993-2024) planning a new start in South America? As has now become known, the singer raved about Buenos Aires just hours before his tragic death and reportedly also expressed concrete plans to move. The Argentinian Daiana Gauna met the star last Wednesday at around 3 p.m. in the lobby of his hotel.
“Liam looked good, not drunk or aggressive, as is claimed on social media,” recalls Gauna in an interview with the Argentine TV station TN Central. The singer approached her and her friends and talked to them at length. “He told us about his experiences in Buenos Aires, about the places he had been and where he still wanted to go.”
Payne loved the city so much that he even considered settling there. “He said he would like to buy a house here and that he loves the countryside around Buenos Aires,” the fan continued. The group chatted with the star for about 10 to 15 minutes. He went on to say that he had just woken up and wanted to eat something.
Only about an hour after the conversation, Liam Payne was dead
The 31-year-old also told fans about a trip to the country with his girlfriend and that they went jogging together on Sunday. “He really enjoyed Buenos Aires,” Gauna remembers. She was all the more shocked when dramatic scenes took place at the hotel just an hour after the encounter. “We saw strange movements in the hotel, a police car and the fire department came.”
At first they only heard from other hotel guests that someone had jumped to their death. “I never thought it was Liam because I had just seen him and he seemed okay,” Gauna said through tears. The news of his death was a big shock. “He was my idol. Liam spoke a lot about mental health and told us in his songs that we are never alone.”
Did Liam Payne want to start a new life in Miami?
The British musician was found dead in the Argentine capital on October 16th. He fell from his hotel balcony for reasons that have not yet been fully clarified. However, initial investigations indicate a tragic accident under the influence of drugs. Payne was only 31 years old.
Previous media reports said that Payne was in Buenos Aires to work with the US Embassy to extend his US visa. Apparently he had to go through several drug tests to prove to the authorities that he was clean. He passed this and was able to have the visa stamped on Friday, two days after his death. According to reports, his goal was to build a new life with his girlfriend in Miami.
