Anna Kendrick: Difficult escape from toxic relationship

Anna Kendrick (39) has spoken again about her experiences with abusive relationships. She was trapped in such a relationship for seven years and didn’t realize until the end how toxic the connection really was. It was “difficult” to find out the truth about her former partner, said the actress.

“It didn’t follow the traditional pattern. Because I read all the articles and thought, ‘It doesn’t look like that – it looks a little bit like they describe it, but not quite,'” she explained. Their relationship changed “overnight” and then got worse for a year.

Anna Kendrick blamed herself

The “Pitch Perfect” star always looked for the cause of her relationship problems within herself. The realization that her partner was the culprit “came out of the blue, but it was based on the basis that I had so much love and trust for this person that I thought it must be up to me. If either of us is crazy, then it must be me. So it was very, very difficult to say, ‘No, I think it’s him.'”

The couple tried to save the relationship with therapy. During one of these sessions, Kendrick’s emotions finally boiled over for the first time and she yelled at her partner. “I sent the therapist an email saying, ‘I’m so embarrassed. I’m so sorry. I know I need to control myself,’ and he called me – something he’d never done before had done – and said, ‘No, I’m so proud of you,'” she recalled. That opened her eyes and shortly afterwards she was able to end the relationship.

In retrospect, her therapist also realized that she had bought her ex-partner’s lies. “I’ve had several sessions with him over the last few years where he apologized to me because I think he now understands what was really going on in the end,” Kendrick said.

Anna Kendrick first spoke to in September 2022 about her relationship, which was marked by emotional and psychological abuse. She was manipulated and believed to have a mental disorder. Anna Kendrick did not reveal who the man was.
