Actor John Turturro is not appearing in “The Batman” spin-off “The Penguin”. The reason for this is the brutal scenes with women.
John Turturro (67) explained his rejection of “The Penguin” with the violent scenes in the mini-series. He did not return to his role as crime boss Carmine Falcone in the spin-off of the 2022 film “The Batman” because he could not represent the violence against women that was depicted. “There was a lot of violence against women in the series and that’s not my thing,” the actor told .
In “The Batman” he “did what I wanted” with his role. Falcone is one of the most violent characters in the Batman universe. In the film, however, his violence is more implied than actually shown, emphasized Turturro. “It happens offscreen. It’s scarier that way.”
“The Penguin” premiered in Germany on September 20th on Sky Atlantic and WOW. The series focuses on “The Batman” character Penguin, who, as in the film, is portrayed by Colin Farrell (48). Turturro’s role as Falcone was taken on by “Kingsman” actor Mark Strong (61).
John Turturro is stressed about deadlines
Another reason why Turturro turned down the offer for “The Penguin” was his other commitments. “You can’t do everything you want,” he told the magazine. The American can be seen in Pedro Almodóvar’s (75) new film “The Room Next Door” from December and in the second season of “Severance” from January. He is also currently filming the literary adaptations of “Sabbath’s Theater” and “Is There No Place on Earth for Me?”
