First write, then kick: Hamburg writer Saša Stanišić can also play football. More out of necessity, he coached a children’s soccer team in Hamburg.
The German-Bosnian writer Saša Stanišić (46) has become a football coach. But that happened more by chance because his son’s club was urgently looking for coaches, said the Hamburg-based author of the German Press Agency. “And then they said quite openly: ‘Either you do it or we can’t let the team take part.'”
His now nine-year-old son waited for a place in the team for about a year and enjoyed kicking. That’s why he spontaneously agreed. “And that brought a lot of joy – for us and also for the children.” He helped train the F youth team for about a year and a half. He is now organizing more in the background because he is traveling more for his two new books and is also working on new projects.
Book prize winner Stanišić (“Origin”) has published a follow-up volume to his first children’s book “Hey, hey, hey, Taxi! 2” together with his son. In it, the narrator experiences the wildest, craziest stories on his travels with a variety of taxis, for example with dragons, dwarves, mosquitoes and parrots.
