Massimo Sinató: From the dance floor to the musical stage

Massimo Sinató ventures onto the stage as a singer for the first time in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical”. His family is completely behind him.

From the dance floor to the musical stage: Massimo Sinató (42) is starting a new career chapter. The “Let’s Dance” professional takes on the role of the tango dancer Santiago in “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” – he will celebrate his personal premiere in Germany on November 6th, just in time for the piece’s two-year anniversary. In an interview on the sidelines of the first public rehearsal in Cologne, he reveals how he prepared for his first singing role and what his wife Rebecca Mir (32) says about his musical debut.

Dear Massimo, for “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” you are venturing onto the musical stage for the first time, why now?

Massimo Sinató: In a dancer’s life, timing is a very important part and this time “Moulin Rouge” had the perfect timing with the request. And so the opportunity arose for me to rock this wonderful stage.

How big is your role as the tango dancer Santiago?

Sinató: The role is diverse. It not only includes dance, but also acting and a lot of singing, which, combined with all three, makes it a completely new profession for me.

The audience will experience you as a singer for the first time. Have you taken singing lessons before?

Sinató: I have been having vocal coaching with my voice developer and coach Simone Kesternich for about four years.

How nervous are you before your first performance?

Sinató: So five weeks isn’t exactly a lot of time for a new profession, but I’m at home on stage and have been for over 30 years, so I know that a certain amount of stage fright is part of it. I think I’ll definitely be a little more nervous at the premiere than at subsequent performances.

How did your wife and family react to your new job as a musical actor?

Sinató: My wife is celebrating my new commitment. She says the role suits me perfectly. She will sit in the audience at the premiere and cross her fingers.

Were there any reactions from the “Let’s Dance” family?

Sinató: My “Let’s Dance” family was very happy for me and one or two of them also planned to visit me on the show.

You’re playing 16 performances until December 15th, are you treating yourself to a long Christmas vacation afterwards?

Sinató: After six months of work in Cologne, as much as I like the city, I am of course looking forward to being home and, above all, to the Christmas holiday with the whole family. It’s that time of year when the whole family gets together.

How will you spend the holidays?

Sinató: Together with my loved ones: my wife, my son and our dog Macchia. And of course Christmas Eve with the family.

With the Christmas season the final spurt for 2024 begins. What is your personal balance for the year?

Sinató: It was a great, successful and eventful year, but my conclusion is: The family remains and is the most important thing in life.

What do you want for 2025?

Sinató: To be honest, I am very grateful for everything I have been able to experience so far, both professionally and my family happiness. Having your own family is a wonderful thing. I wish that my family stays healthy and happy.

Can you tell us something about the new “Let’s Dance” season next year?

Sinató: Unfortunately I can’t reveal anything yet. (laughs)
