Kate Winslet: star line-up at the Women In Film Awards

The Women In Film Awards honored women for their achievements in the media industry. Two of them were particularly affectionate.

Female stars were honored for their achievements in the film and media industry at the “Women In Film” (WIF) event in Beverly Hills on Thursday evening. Among the award winners who insisted on appearing in person were Kate Winslet (49), Kerry Washington (47) and Annette Bening (66).

The latter actress received the Jane Fonda Humanitarian Award, which was presented to her by Fonda (86) himself. Bening has used her long career “to bring about radical change and address problems with her powerful voice.” This includes trans rights as well as her “effective, philanthropic work with Planned Parenthood and in breast cancer research.”

Winslet is now this year’s recipient of the Crystal Award, which she received together with director Ellen Kuras (65). Both women put together the biopic “Lee”, which is about the war photographer Lee Miller (1907-1977), under sometimes adverse circumstances. The project was in the making for eight years and due to financial constraints, Winslet temporarily paid the other actors’ fees out of her own pocket. Winslet and Kuras’ “vision and unwavering commitment” to capture this true story on film is a prime example of the achievements to be honored by Women In Film.

Kerry Washington is the new winner of the Entrepreneur in Entertainment Awards. She has made “outstanding contributions to both the creative and business areas of entertainment,” according to the statement. In addition to being an actress, producer and director, Washington is also a best-selling author and activist.

Pure glamor and love on the red carpet

On the red carpet of the event, Winslet and Fonda in particular demonstrated their close familiarity – in very different outfits. The “Titanic” star chose a wide-cut, white pants suit with blue vertical stripes and floral applications. Fonda appeared completely black from head to toe, her jacket glittering with her eyes. Meanwhile, a strapless and elegant white dress with a narrow black belt and long leg slit was Kerry Washington’s outfit choice of the day.

“Women In Film” was founded in 1973 and has been awarding prizes to women in the media industry since 1977. 20 years later, the umbrella organization “Women In Film and Television International” was founded, which has also included the German sub-organization “Women In Film and Television Germany” since 2005.
