Formats like “Who’s Better?” and “before-after” fascinate us again and again. We want to know how much a different item of clothing, a new hairstyle or losing 20 kilograms affects the visual appearance. Do you still recognize people when they suddenly change their style? Which suits you better? What do we prefer personally?
Every year in Switzerland there is a very male competition in which the growth of the beard decides who wins. Every gram counts, because it’s all about which man has the most facial hair on the scales after it has been removed. We took a look at the participants from 2017 from a different “point of view”: Who adorns his beard and who made the right decision to part with him?
The hipster beard days are over
We remember the time four or five years ago when suddenly all the men (who could) grew full beards and also liked to wear woolen hats. At many an event, in many a concert, one asked oneself where Vadder Abraham was, because the Smurfs all seemed to be there. That time is over, at least since the corona pandemic made the combination of beard and mask much more difficult.
However, these pictures are more about the question: Are we basically fans of beards or of shaved men’s faces? Or is it not more about individual criteria, where you have to say: Yes, his beard suits him! Or: No, shaving was a good decision here.
For the Swiss participants in the 2017 beard competition, the decision was not an easy one for us. Some men just have both, like short or long hair. It’s no different with women. We are curious what you say!
