“Full House” maker Jeff Franklin bought the original sitcom house for $4 million. He explains in a documentary why it was so important to him.
In the documentary “The House From…” by director Tommy Avallone, Jeff Franklin (69), the creator of the sitcom “Full House” (1987-1995), explains why he bought the iconic house from the US series for 4 million in 2016 bought dollars. He wanted to use it for filming the sequel “Fuller House” (2016-2020).
“When ‘Fuller House’ came back on the air, I had this dream where the actors walk out of the soundstage, out of the living room and through the red door, and suddenly we’re in San Francisco and we see the cast through the real one “I was actually allowed to do that when I bought the house.”
Recalling how he scouted the house for the original series, Franklin said, “Of course, ‘Full House’ is set in San Francisco, so I wanted the house to be a good example of classic San Francisco architecture. This house I just jumped out at me and said, ‘This is it, this is the house I want.'”
First shots used until the end
“We shot the first shots on film so we could adapt them to today’s standards and transfer them to high definition – they still look pretty good. So that material served us surprisingly well. We shot during the day, we did shot at night,” he says. Franklin also explains that at least one of the “maybe 15 recordings” from this period appears in every episode of ‘Full House’ and ‘Fuller House.’
“The same shots appear in every episode. I have a real emotional connection to this house. I’ve edited every single one of these episodes. I’ve stared at the same shots of this house for 32 years and it feels like it the Tanners’ house [‘Full House’-Filmfamilie, Red.]. It feels real to me, so owning the house was pretty cool at first. It was also great because we could finally come back here.”
In “The House From…” the stories of many other houses in film history are also told. The documentary airs October 27th on Ryan Reynolds’ (48) Maximum Effort Channel on Fubo. It will also be available on TVOD platforms from October 28th.
