Actor Kevin Kline raves about his wife Phoebe Cates in an interview and reveals the secret behind his happy marriage.
A celebrity marriage that has lasted for decades: Kevin Kline (77) and Phoebe Cates (61) have been married for over 35 years. The actor apparently attributes this to the couple keeping their distance from Hollywood. In the 77-year-old joked: “If your marriage lasts longer than six months, you’re already in the Guinness Book of Records if it’s a Hollywood marriage.”

According to the Oscar winner, he and Cates don’t have a “Hollywood marriage” as they lived in New York City for most of their relationship. The two wouldn’t consider themselves celebrities either. “That’s why you won’t see Botox. These are my lips, what’s left of them,” said the star of the new series “Disclaimer” (Apple TV+).
In addition, Kevin Kline explained that his wife’s support is one of the main reasons why their relationship has remained so strong over the years. “She’s a great wife, a great mother, a great person, and she makes sure I’m honest,” he said, before joking, “Except for interviews.”
The actors married in 1989
The two actors met at a casting in the early 1980s and married in a private ceremony in New York in 1989 – the same year that Kevin Kline won an Oscar for best supporting actor for “A Fish Called Wanda.” The couple had two children: son Owen was born in 1991 and daughter Greta in 1994.
Phoebe Cates became known for her roles in 1980s comedies such as I Think I’m Standing in the Woods and Gremlins. In the 1990s she largely withdrew from acting. She returned to the camera again in 2001 for the film “Relationships and Other Disasters”. In 2005 she opened her own fashion boutique in Manhattan.
