Actor Colin Farrell ran the marathon in the Irish capital Dublin. The 48-year-old Irishman supported a fundraiser for a friend who suffers from a rare skin disease. Emma Fogarty is one of the most extraordinary people he has ever met, the actor (“The Penguin”, “The Banshees of Inisherin”) recently told RTÉ radio station.
Fogarty suffers from epidermolysis bullosa, also known as butterfly disease. The cohesion of the skin layers is weakened. Even the smallest injuries, friction or pressure lead to blisters and open wounds.
During a joint appearance on “The Late Late Show,” the two talked about the planned marathon. Emma’s humor, personality, kindness and joy for life are amazing, Farrell said. With the fundraising campaign they have so far collected around 700,000 euros for an aid organization for those affected.
They also wanted the marathon to celebrate Fogarty’s 40th birthday – a milestone she didn’t think she would reach, according to British news agency PA. Farrell wanted to push Fogarty in a wheelchair for the last four kilometers.
