Monster penalty for Verstappen

Escalation with an announcement: World champion Max Verstappen dangerously overreached in the heated Formula 1 World Championship duel and received a self-inflicted lesson for his overly hard driving style. While Carlos Sainz celebrated the next Ferrari party and his second win of the season, the heated rivalry between Verstappen and challenger Lando Norris was once again explosive a week after the Austin controversy.
Verstappen pushed the second-placed McLaren star Norris off the track twice within one lap and received a time penalty of a total of 20 seconds. Verstappen ultimately finished the 20th of 24 races this season in sixth place. Third place went to Sainz’ Scuderia colleague Charles Leclerc.
Verstappen’s lead in the World Cup standings shrank to 47 points. 120 points are still up for grabs in the remaining four races. Norris received a time penalty in Austin after a duel with Verstappen, which cost him the podium and points. The verdict was controversial.
Nico Hülkenberg (Emmerich) finished ninth in the Haas at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and scored in the points. Celebrating Fernando Alonso experienced disappointment on his 400th Grand Prix weekend of his career and retired early in the Aston Martin.
Ferrari continued to make up ground in the battle for the constructors’ championship and pushed Red Bull out of second place – this is not only due to the Reds’ new strength and consistency but also to Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez.
