With the prospect of winning $50 in prize money, several young men competed in New York as lookalikes of the Hollywood star. Then there was an unexpected visitor.
US actor Timothée Chalamet (“Dune”, “Call Me By Your Name”) surprised the participants in a doppelganger competition in New York. The 28-year-old appeared in person at the event on Sunday (local time), which, according to US media, attracted hundreds of onlookers.
Protected by bodyguards, Chalamet posed for photos with some of his doppelgangers. In the competition, which was advertised through leaflets and presented by a YouTuber, the audience chose the young man who looked most like the actor. Some of the participants were costumed like characters from Chalamet’s films. The prize money was 50 dollars (around 46 euros).
The crowd was so great that the police had to clear Washington Square Park, the reports continued. The organizers were fined $500 (around 460 euros) for organizing an unauthorized competition. One person was also arrested, but the reason for this was not known. However, the crowd moved on to another park.
Miles Mitchell was chosen as the winner. The 21-year-old student from Staten Island appeared dressed as Willy Wonka. Chalamet plays the character of the idiosyncratic chocolate manufacturer in the musical comedy “Wonka,” which was released in 2023 and tells the backstory of the classic “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” “I’m excited and overwhelmed at the same time. There were so many good doubles,” Mitchell said.
In his upcoming film “A Complete Unknown,” Chalamet plays the legendary musician Bob Dylan. The film is scheduled to open in the USA in December.
