After its launch, the Coastal Region will seek to create its own river fleet

Made up just days ago of six provinces, the Coastal Region was activated with various activities, with the objective of discussing transversal issues to the districts that comprise it and negotiating from a position of strength with the Nation, as occurs with some blocks of pre-existing governors. In that framework, It was announced that the space will seek to create its own river fleet.

The alliance was made official two weeks ago, with an event in Santa Fe to which, in addition to the host Maximiliano Pullarothe leaders attended Gustavo Valdes (Currents), Rogelio Frigerio (Entre Ríos), Leandro Zdero (Chaco), and Hugo Passalacqua (Missions). One of the central topics that the brand new Coastal Region will discuss is the future of the Waterway. In this context, a Santa Fe official announced this Monday that the provincial leaders will seek to form their own merchant fleet.

Claudia Giaccone, undersecretary of the Central Region of the province of Santa Fe, admitted that in space “There is talk of starting to create our own regional fleet to take advantage of competitive advantages in terms of price,” which he called a “primary issue.” He also said that there is talk about “port river transport, also road transport on our highways and the energy issue.”

In this regard, Giaccone pointed out that this is a strategic issue, which requires studies, planning and, obviously, financing. “We are in a different time, an opportunity and there are governors with a very strong decision who are going to work in this regard and that is one of the issues,” he commented to LT9.

Launch of the Coastal Region

The Coastal Region It is a detachment from the Norte Grande and the Central Region. It had a first event in the Corrientes town of Bella Vista, where the intention to formalize the space was anticipated. That officialization finally came days later, when the governors met again, on this occasion at the La Redonda cultural center in the capital of Santa Fe.

On the day, in addition to launching the block, Córdoba’s application to join it was accepted.

During the event, the leaders criticized the Nation in demand of greater federalism, while anticipating their decision to work together on different fronts, including the negotiations for the 2025 Budget with the government of Javier Milei.

In this regard, Valdés specified that the “Littoral regional economies have great potential.” However, he asked to “normalize the macroeconomy, encourage production, develop infrastructure and improve the waterway to reduce costs to export our production, which is of excellence, to the world.”

In reference to the brand new bloc, the radical leader pointed out that Corrientes, Chaco, Formosa, Misiones, Entre Ríos and Santa Fe have similar productive matrices, “so we share problems, needs and capabilities that we will present to the federal authorities: we will work for all of them.”
