On October 28, the Mining Worker’s Day in commemoration of the creation of the Argentine Mining Workers Associationwhich this year celebrates its first 71 years of life.
With sustained growth over the years, the union already owns eight hotels in the main tourist centers, its own sectionals and an important automobile fleet.
Its main objective being the defense of the rights of mining workers, The union provides constant training to workers, carrying out agreements and courses with different universities.
Currently, AOMA has almost 35,000 members distributed in the eighteen sections it has throughout the country, promoting the inclusion of women and youth. Looking to the future, an important growth projection is seen, if the main copper projects are launched, where taking only as an example, the Josemaria copper project would generate four thousand direct jobs.
Héctor Laplace’s message to the miners
For all workers, the general secretary of AOMA. Hector Laplaceon this special date for the union, sent a message in which he referred to the current situation of the entity and the sector.
Laplace, who has been in charge of the union since 2004, stated that before “the adverse economic situation that our country is going through, we redouble our efforts with the firm conviction of getting closer to the workers, providing them with more benefits and demonstrating that the contributions of the members can be seen in the construction of new headquarters, the purchase of hotels in different tourist areas of the country, the renewal of vehicles to tour the factories and deposits, the delivery of school supplies, scholarships, subsidies and recreational activities in our sections throughout the country.
Within this reality that the unionist described, he highlighted that “We continue fighting for a decent wage and fundamentally, optimizing the operation of our Social Work (OSAM), so that no worker is left without coverage, for the benefit of the Argentine mining family.”
Along the same lines, he added that for the Association, “In their 71 years of life, it is a pride to accompany them daily, let us continue consolidating our organization and deepening the unavoidable task of defending our rights, those that were born with AOMA and are the legacy of General Juan Domingo Perón and Comrade Evita.”
Finally, he extended a warm hug to each of the “comrades, wishing them the greatest of happiness on this very special date, in unity, solidarity and organization.”
