A trial on allegations of sexual harassment against Gérard Depardieu has been postponed to March 2025.
Gérard Depardieu (75) faces serious allegations. A criminal trial against the French actor was scheduled to begin in Paris on October 28th. However, the court on Monday granted a request from the actor’s lawyer, who was not present, to postpone the trial.
Hearing without Gérard Depardieu
It had previously been known that Depardieu had recently become “seriously ill”. The lawyer Jérémie Assous said that his client would therefore stay away from the start of the trial. Depardieu’s doctors “unfortunately forbade the defendant to be present at the hearing.” Therefore, the 75-year-old actor will “request a postponement to a later date so that he can take part.”
According to the court’s current decision, negotiations will not begin until the end of March 2025. A medical report on whether Depardieu is fit to stand trial should be presented by the beginning of March.
The lawsuit accuses the French star of sexual assaults that allegedly occurred on the set of Jean Becker’s (91) film “Les volets verts” in September 2021. One of the alleged victims filed a complaint in February 2024 for “sexual assault, sexual harassment and sexist insults”. According to media reports, the 75-year-old could face up to five years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros if convicted. Depardieu rejects the allegations.
In total, around 20 women have accused Depardieu of various sexual offenses in recent years. The public prosecutor’s office is also investigating Depardieu for the alleged rape of his fellow actress Charlotte Arnould (28). He also denies this accusation. No charges have yet been filed in this case.
