Football coach Jürgen Klopp has defended his signing at Red Bull and explained how the new job came about.
Jürgen Klopp (57) has responded to criticism of his new job. The 57-year-old will be “Global Head of Soccer” at Red Bull from 2025. In the German fan scene, the company’s involvement in football is met with some resistance, with the accusation that success is bought with a lot of money.
brothers Toni (34) and Felix Kroos (33), Klopp now explained about his new role at Red Bull that it was actually about him not seeing himself on the sidelines for the time being: “Coach wasn’t available to me at the moment Debate.” But it was always clear to him “that he wasn’t going to do nothing at all. And that’s when the Red Bull story came up.” For him it was “outstanding,” added Klopp.
A partner for the trainers
On the other hand, Jürgen Klopp continued, he always had the feeling that “as a coach you are often the loneliest person in the club”. The red carpet is briefly rolled out for new coaches, “then you lose two games in a row and then you have a problem.” He now wants to be an advisor for the coaches of the Red Bull clubs who can bring calm and assess things in various situations. He wants to work with them, be a partner, but doesn’t want to talk in and tell them how it works: “I just want to support, not talk in, because I also know how stupid that is.”
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Klopp explained about his job at Red Bull and probably added regarding the fan criticism: “I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes, definitely not. Personally, I love all my former clubs. I I don’t know exactly what I could have done to make everyone happy.”
Jürgen Klopp has already celebrated many successes
At the beginning of October, Jürgen Klopp and Red Bull announced their collaboration. The star coach previously coached Liverpool FC from 2015 until the end of the season in May 2024. He led the Reds to the Champions League title in 2019 and a year later to their first championship title in 30 years.
The Stuttgart native also celebrated many successes in German football: he worked as a coach at Borussia Dortmund for seven years from 2008 to 2015. The Black and Yellows won two championships and a cup final under his leadership. He also has years of commitment to his first head coaching position. From 2001 to 2008 he coached the professional footballers at FSV Mainz 05 – he was also active there as a player from 1990 to 2001.
