Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice: Jury biased? Ghislaine Maxwell’s attorneys file motion for retrial

Just weeks after Ghislaine Maxwell was found guilty on five out of six counts by a jury, her lawyers are officially calling for a retrial. Reason are parts of said jury.

As might be expected, Ghislaine Maxwell’s attorneys have officially filed a request for a retrial. At the end of December, the former girlfriend of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was found guilty on five out of six counts. The jury agreed that Maxwell provided Epstein with underage girls for him to abuse.

Ghislaine Maxwell: Lawyers want trials to be repeated

As the reason for a new trial, their defense attorneys call juror number 50. Scotty David is the name of the man who spoke to the “Daily Mail” after the verdict and even had himself photographed. The New Yorker said he found Maxwell to be just as guilty as Epstein. And he revealed that his own fate influenced the jury. Because the jury was divided on how to judge Maxwell. The turning point came when he himself shared his experiences with sexual abuse. A detail that sparked debate. Because the fact that he came into contact with abuse as part of the jury could have been an exclusion criterion for participation – if not it had to be.

Before being selected for a jury, the twelve men and women in US court cases go through a rigorous selection process. This is to ensure that they are not biased and that a fair process is possible. Scotty David told the “Daily Mail” that he could not remember whether he was asked about sexual abuse experiences in advance. If so, he would certainly have answered truthfully.

Juror was himself an abuse victim

The jury’s revelations that their experience led to the jury’s decision “constitutes undeniable grounds for a new trial,” Maxwell’s attorneys said in their filing. “Assuming the reporting is accurate, the juror claimed that he ‘scanned’ the prospective jury questionnaire and did not recall being asked if he had been a victim of sexual abuse, but did indicate that he ‘had answered honestly’,” the prosecutor’s letter said.

Maxwell’s lawyers have now officially responded and submitted the application. “For the reasons set forth in the motion, we are requesting that all filings involving juror #50 remain sealed pending the court’s decision on the motion,” it reads.
