Mujica plans to meet with Lula and Pope Francis in mid-November

The tractor interrupted the normal passage of those who want to enter the farm where they live, since the return to democracy, Jose Mujica and Lucia Topolansky. “I’ll grab it in a while,” the former president warned before the curious look of this journalist who did not dare to ask why he was there.

The leader of MPP and representative of the Frente Amplio (FA) thus began his talk with Scope on various topics. He announced that he plans to meet in the short term with the president of Brazil, Lula da Silva and, if health permits, with the Pope Francis in the very Vatican.

“I have to go see Lula now Saint Paul that they are going to give me recognition and from there they offered me a plane to take me to Rome and see Francisco. If the body gives me the chance, I’ll go,” said Mujica.

It should be remembered that the leader of the Catholic Church called him and spoke on the phone with the former president weeks ago, which even caused a curious anecdote when Topolansky answered the cell phone.

The trip could take place in the coming weeks, in the middle of the electoral campaign for the second round of the elections, but it depends on the authorization of Mujica’s personal doctor, Raquel Panone.

On the other hand, Scope was able to know that this is the only international agenda that Mujica has planned in the short term, ruling out a meeting with the former Argentine president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

In fact, the former president did not maintain face-to-face contact with the international guests who participated in the national election, among whom were political leaders of the Kirchnerismas Peter’s Wado, Nicolas Trotta, and Victor Santa Maria.

Searching for disenchanted whites and reds is the strategy for the 2024 runoff

Former President Mujica also explained what he believes should be the strategy that the Frente Amplio should follow for the second electoral round, in which its candidate, Yamandu Orsiit will be measured with the white Alvaro Delgado.

“Go look for white people, red people, all colors. There are many outside waiting to be talked to,” he analyzed and added that for this the leaders of the left have to “open their heads” if they want to obtain a favorable result at the national level.

He even managed the possibility of reaching agreements with leaders or even lists at the departmental level in the format of “coalition” electoral for the runoff with the idea of adding votes in the interior of the country, as long as the FA at the central level enables the procedure.

Mujica valued the vote of his MPP sector very positively and framed it in the very active militancy of its leaders and voters. “There are days when we had up to 100 campaign activities,” he expressed proudly.

In any case, he did not hide some discomfort with some sectors of the FA who, in his opinion, privileged the campaign for the plebiscite on social security reform. “If we all scored together we would win in the first place,” lamented the former president.

Regarding the plebiscite promoted by the PIT-CNTanalyzed that it was very difficult for it to be approved, since it does not usually happen when it is combined with a national or departmental election, for reasons of confusion among citizens. Along these lines, he proposed a modification so that it could be carried out separately. “They demand another respect,” he commented.

Once the dialogue was over, Mujica began his daily tasks. “Now I’m going to prepare the land to plant pumpkins,” he said, approaching the tractor.
