The writer and director of The squid game, Hwang Dong-hyukand two of the stars of the show, Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-Juntraveled to Italy’s Lucca Comics and Games on Thursday and revealed new details for the second season of the hit series. Netflix.
When asked what fans should expect from the hit survival drama, Hwang, during the new season’s first global promotional event, revealed the “biggest difference” between the first and second seasons.

“If season 1 was about Gi-hun’s story [Lee]or the 456th player, who enters The Squid Game for the first time and how he survives and leaves the game as a winner, season 2 will be about Gi-hun [enfrentándose] to his memories of the first game: the experiences of going through a new understanding and awakening and returning once again to the game to stop this unfair game.”said.
Hwang, who was the first Asian to win an Emmy for outstanding directing in a drama series, also told the crowd of mostly Italian fans that the second season will feature two Italian songs: “Nessun Dorma” by Giacomo Puccini, from the opera “Turandot”, and “Time to Say Goodbye” (also known as “Con te partò”) performed by Andrea Bocelli.
The creator of The Squid Game also revealed why at the end of the first season, Gi-hun at the airport sports red hair.
The inspiration, Hwang said, “came from an unexpected place.” “Seong Gi-hun’s red hair at the end of season 1, I took it from my favorite comic ‘Slam Dunk’”he added, revealing his reference to the popular Japanese sports manga series.
For Lee Jung-jaewho plays Gi-hun, the transition to red hair “came very naturally,” he said.
“After going through such a tremendous experience, so that he could live a new life I thought that dying his hair red was kind of the beginning of his new courage,” added the star who plays player number 456.
Wi Ha-Junwho plays South Korean police detective Hwang Jun-ho, who infiltrates the game’s facility in search of his missing brother, said that in Season 1 his character “literally walked away from the door of death and, to find brother – and go after those cruel people behind the game – has to put an end to this brutal and unfair game.
“What kind of things will you have to go through now? What determination will they find in him and in his charisma along the way? “I hope all of you are looking forward to seeing that,” he added.
The second season will premiere on December 26 on Netflixwhile the third season of The Squid Game will premiere in 2025.
