The Curutchet House will be acquired by the College of Architects of the Province of Buenos Aires, which has rented the property since the 1980s.

The province’s College of Architects began using the house as an administrative headquarters and cultural space in the 1980s. Since then, he rents it for his activities and finally now, he decided to take the step to purchase.

The initiative arose to preserve this architectural icon and strengthen its cultural accessibility. Currently, art exhibitions, recitals, shows, among other artistic activities, are held there.

The Curutchet House is a masterpiece by Swiss architect Le Corbusier, built between 1949 and 1953. It is known to be a leading example of the modern movement in architecture and was the only work of Le Corbusier in South America. The house combines functionality and aesthetics, integrating innovative design elements, such as the use of stilts and large windows. Its design reflects Le Corbusier’s philosophy on the relationship between architecture and the environment. The design of the street elevation is one of the highlights of the project.

Currently, it is a symbol of the modernist movement in the region. It should be noted that the house was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016.

Cultural activities are reinforced at Casa Curutchet

The proposal includes the development of a living museum, where architecture, culture and other knowledge can coexist. Although it already works this way, the idea is to enhance this space. The guided tours will continue. Currently, they take place from Thursday to Sunday, between 1 and 5 p.m., with prior reservation.

History of its creation

The commission for this architectural masterpiece was carried out by the surgeon Pedro Curutchetnative of Lobería. Curutchet was looking for a home that reflected his modern and functional lifestyle. The project was conceived by letter, since Le Corbusier was in Paris. The architect entrusted the direction of the house to Amancio Williams.

Construction took place on uneven terrain in La Plata, and Le Corbusier took advantage of this feature to create an innovative design. Over the years, the Curutchet House has been the object of study and admiration, being considered an icon of the modern movement.
