Halloween trailer for the thriller series “Squid Game”
The Korean series “Squid Game” enters its second round at Christmas. For fans there is now a first longer trailer for the new season on Halloween.
“Guys, I already know this damn game! We’re all going to die!” screams lead actor Lee Jung-jae in his role: 56 days before the start, Netflix has released a so-called teaser trailer for the second season of its global success “Squid Game” published. The new season is scheduled to start on December 26th. The trailer is not for the faint of heart, and again shows some of the brutality that is to be expected.
In the first season, hundreds of candidates competed against each other in seemingly harmless children’s games. But the macabre competition didn’t allow for a second chance: anyone who doesn’t make it to the next round is killed.
Player 456 returns to the game to defeat it
“In Season 2, Seong Gi-hun, known as Player 456, raises the stakes: Marked by the scars of games past, he is on a desperate mission to uncover the deadly truth of the competition.” But his teammates questioned his intentions, says Netflix. Years after his triumph in the Squid game, Seong Gi-hun tried to find those behind the nasty competition and put an end to their evil activities. But the path to dismantling the organization proved difficult. That’s why 456 gets back on board to destroy the game from the inside: “Guys, I already know this damn game! We’re all going to die!”
Most successful Netflix series ever
The first season of “Squid Game” became a topic of conversation around the world in 2021 and was also praised for its social criticism – growing inequality, discrimination against social minorities, extreme pressure to perform are topics, coupled with a lot of violence.
In autumn 2021, a total of 265 million views were registered for the nine episodes of season one in the first 90 days. This makes the Korean production the most successful Netflix series. After the second season at the end of 2024, there will be a third season with which the series will end.
The series received six awards at the Primetime Emmys 2022, including Lee Jung-jae for best actor and Hwang Dong-hyuk for best director.
The streaming service Netflix says it has around 283 million paying subscribers in more than 190 countries.
