Singer Alison Moyet is amused: “Grandma is going on tour”

When she became famous almost overnight in the ’80s, Alison Moyet didn’t think she would still be performing decades later. She smiles when she thinks of her grandson.

British singer Alison Moyet (“Is This Love?”, “All Cried Out”) finds it amazing that she is still giving concerts in her 60s. “The fact that I’m a grandmother who’s about to go on a four-month tour is completely crazy, isn’t it?” the 63-year-old told the German Press Agency in London. “The other day I was imagining my grandson asking, ‘What’s Grandma doing this week?’ She’s on tour and performing at festivals! It’s a funny thing.”

With her new album “Key”, which has just been released, the former Yazoo singer celebrates 40 years as a solo artist. Her European tour begins in February 2025 and will also take her to several German cities. Moyet doesn’t take for granted that people still come to her shows. “I’m an artist and a musician, and the vast majority of artists and musicians have no audience at all,” she said. “Having one is an absolute blessing.” Many concerts are already sold out.

“I never dreamed that I would even be able to do something like this,” said the singer, who says she has no interest in fame and avoids public appearances off stage. “People want to see me live, that’s a fantastic thing.” At the same time, Alison Moyet made it clear that there is a limit for her. “If one day I realize that I can no longer sing, I will stop immediately. I have no desire to go past my sell-by date.”
